Gregory Group one of 90 transport businesses globally to achieve SBTi target validation

Gregory Group has become one of just 90 road transport businesses worldwide to have our emission reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This means our targets are in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5^oC above pre-industrial levels.

The transport sector is the highest contributor to UK greenhouse gas emissions accounting for 26%, so Gregory Group’s commitment to reducing our carbon footprint will make positive inroads to decarbonising the hard-to-abate transport sector.

The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently validates companies’ targets.

The SBTi validated targets state that Gregory Group will reduce scope 1 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030. Renewable electricity will also be used across the entire Group by 2030, and within scope 3, GHG emissions from fuel and energy related activities will reduce by 25%. In addition, GHG emissions from upstream transportation and distribution will reduce by 30.22% per tonne-km within the same timeframe.

By reducing their scope 1 emissions, the Group will positively influence the Scope 3 emissions emitted by their customers.
