Find out more about our peopleLogistics were first associated to the Gregory name in 1919. Today, the business remains in the family with the third generation at the helm. This is how we got there:
Archie John Gregory began the business by hauling coal from North Tawton station to the local wool factory with a horse and cart. Nine months later, he bought his first vehicle - a 2.9 litre Model T.
In 1939 the fleet expanded into the transportation of livestock, meat, agricultural feed and fertilisers.
In 1947, when Jack Gregory was 23, he left his job at the local bank and joined the family business.
Through the 50s Jack expands the business. New premises are required so Gregory moves to North Park, North Tawton in 1963 where the first warehouse is built.
Jack retires in 1985 and John Gregory takes over the company with ambitious plans for growth.
In 1994 the deregulation of the dairy industry provided an opportunity to become a significant ex-farm haulier. We were awarded milk contracts by the newly formed Milk Marque, collecting from 2,000 farms.
In 1998 Gregory becomes a member of Palletline and turnover reaches £38m.
Acquisitions through the 90s and 00s saw significant growth resulting in a turnover of £350 million, supported by a team of 2,500 people.
In 2019 we celebrated 100 years of business with a visit from the then HRH The Prince of Wales.
In 2010 another strong brand called Hayton Coulthard entered into a joint venture with Gregory. Eight years later, Gregory acquired ARR Craib and in 2021 Pollock was also acquired.
Hayton Coulthard, Craib, and Pollock are Scottish businesses which have a rich heritage and strong brand reputation.
Together we are a national logistics company servicing over 300 businesses - both local and global. We have been built on reputation and continue to do business with the same partnership-led ethics that our founders initiated.
Learn moreYou share the same drive for sustainable growth and reducing the impact on our planet. This, combined with the fact that people are central to what you do, makes us a very good business fit.
