Our heritage
We have a rich history dating back four generations to 1916.
Our beginnings in 1916
Peter Coulthard started the haulage company delivering newspapers around Galloway by motorbike and sidecar.
Second generation joins the business
In 1940 Jimmy (the son of Peter) joined the business and focused on expansion.
All change in 1959
After Jimmy died his eldest son Duncan left school at 14 to help his mother run the business. In 1967 Duncan took ever completely.
Collaboration with Gregory Distribution
In the 80s Hayton Coulthard started working with Gregory Distribution on reciprocal work via a shared customer.
The fourth generation joins the business
Duncan Senior retired and his son, Duncan Junior took over the business in 2000.
Joint venture established
In 2010 Hayton Coulthard and Gregory Distribution joined forces and were now able to cover the remote areas of the UK.

In 2010 we entered a joint venture with Gregory Group - a well-established logistics business with particular prominence in the South West. We had worked together for 30 years prior to this, sharing customers and efficiencies.
While we continue to be a very proud Scottish brand, today we are able to offer our customers a wider range of logistic services and greater flexibility. In other words, if you need something transporting, no matter how small or large, we can help you!
